Echodyne Radar Selected for Northern Plains’ UTM Pilot Program Testing

Echodyne, the manufacturer of innovative, high-performance radars for government and commercial markets, announced today that it has been selected to participate in Northern Plains UAS Test Site (NPUASTS) industry partnership to test and demonstrate commercial UAS operations in the next phase of DOT/FAA UAS Pilot Program (UPP) testing. Echodyne’s MESA™ radar technology enables an Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM) system to detect and track commercial drones and manned aircraft, enabling safe operations in the national airspace.

“Echodyne is thrilled to be part of Northern Plains’ next phase of UPP testing,” said Eben Frankenberg, CEO of Echodyne. “Northern Plains has a wealth of UAS testing experience, and we’re excited to be working with them to show how commercial UAS can be deployed without compromising safety. Our radar has demonstrated unrivaled efficacy and reliability in many previous UTM related tests, and we look forward to continuing that demonstration with the Northern Plains team.”

The NPUASTS UPP will focus on advanced airspace, drone, and sensor technology for safe commercial UAS operations, including beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), night operations, daisy-chained visual operations, higher altitude flights, and more. Echodyne radars will be primarily focused on BVLOS operations as well as supporting other testing plans.

“Northern Plains has assembled a best-in-class team of companies and technologies for the next phase of DOT/FAA UPP Demonstration,” added Chris Theisen, Director of Research and Development at NPUASTS. “Echodyne brings highly regarded radar capabilities, an unmatched reputation for in-field performance, and extensive UAS experience to the team, and we look forward to working with them on a wide battery of UPP tests that continue building the safety case for commercial UAS.”

The Norther Plains UPP partners include many leading UAS companies, such as Simulyze, Harris Corporation, uAvionix, and the University of North Dakota.

Multivista, part of Hexagon, announced today a partnership with DroneDeploy, the leading cloud software platform for commercial drones, to expand project management capabilities.

Through a sophisticated platform integration, Multivista users now have access to an array of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) resources, each powered by DroneDeploy.

“This is the most robust and dynamic integration Multivista has developed to date, created with the most respected name in commercial UAV software,” said Graham Twigg, Chief Technology Officer at Multivista. “We’ve created a platform that serves up our captured aerial data in the most appropriate form for each project stakeholder – those who need to inspect can view, those who need to quantify can measure, and those who need to model or report can export into dozens of formats.”

Democratizing Drone-Captured Data Across Construction Project Teams

From the Multivista platform, customers can access Multivista-captured orthomosaic maps of their project sites. With an included set of web-based tools, users can annotate these high-definition aerial maps to determine distance, area, volume, elevation and more. Users also have the option to export detailed progress reports, along with a wide-range of 2D and 3D file formats, for use in a variety of project workflows or advanced modeling applications.

“We’re excited to partner with Multivista,” said Mike Winn, CEO and co-founder of DroneDeploy. “Drones already make construction sites safer and more efficient. This integration will help more contractors benefit from drone data, providing increased visibility and measurement of what’s happening across their projects.”

This first-of-its-kind combination of professional UAV services and integrated software is currently available to Multivista clients across 50 metropolitan markets in North America, South America and Europe, with expansion efforts underway.
